Setting Up Your Antminer L9, Step by Step

Nothing here is difficult, but two of these steps catch people out: the electrical supply and the noise. Work through them in order.

1. Plan the power first. The L9 draws 3,360W to 3,570W. At UK mains voltage that is over 14 amps, which is more than a standard 13A plug is rated for. You need a 16A supply on its own circuit, typically a commando socket fitted by an electrician. Never run an L9 from a domestic extension lead or a shared ring with other heavy loads.
2. Choose the location for airflow and noise. The L9 is air cooled and can reach 85dB under load, which is too loud to live with. A garage, outbuilding or dedicated room with cool incoming air and somewhere for the hot exhaust to go is the realistic minimum. The machine also puts out around 3.5kW of heat, which needs to leave the room.
3. Connect power and network. The PSU is integrated: connect the supplied lead to your 16A socket and run an Ethernet cable to your router or switch. There is no wireless option, and for a machine that works around the clock you would not want one.
4. Find the miner on your network. Check your router’s connected devices list for the new entry, or use Bitmain’s IP reporter tool. Type that address into a browser on the same network, log in with the default details from the manual, and change the password straight away.
5. Enter your pool details. In the miner dashboard, add your mining pool address, worker name and password in the pool slots. For Scrypt, Litecoin Pool is the established choice and pays the merged Dogecoin rewards alongside Litecoin. Set your payout wallet addresses in your pool account, not on the machine.
6. Save, restart and verify. The miner will connect and start hashing within a few minutes. Confirm the hashrate on the dashboard matches the spec for your bin, watch temperatures through the first hour, and check your pool account shows accepted shares.
