ASIC Miner Recycling, WEEE and Producer Responsibility

ASIC miners are electrical and electronic equipment containing metals, circuit boards, fans, power supplies and other recoverable components. They must not be placed in general waste. We prioritise continued safe use, repair, refurbishment, parts recovery and reuse before recycling where those routes are technically, environmentally and legally appropriate.

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment regime, commonly called WEEE, allocates responsibilities according to the product, supply chain, quantity, customer classification and the role performed. The Mining Shop UK Limited may act as a distributor, commercial importer, repairer or waste holder in different transactions. A recycling service does not remove a producer's, distributor's or customer's separate legal duties.

This page does not claim environmental certification or replace a project-specific waste assessment. Registration, producer-compliance-scheme, carrier, treatment and documentation details relevant to an accepted project will be identified and evidenced rather than assumed.

Current producer registration. The Mining Shop UK Limited is registered for the 2026 compliance year under WEEE producer registration number WEE/MM2824AA. The small-producer submission records 3.000 tonnes of household/dual-use EEE: category 1, 0.100 t; category 2, 0.200 t; category 3, 2.500 t; category 4, 0.200 t. Registration is not the same as membership of a producer compliance scheme, and we do not claim scheme membership.

We apply the duties relevant to our role as producer, importer or distributor and maintain records supporting registration, supply, take-back and transfer. Product conformity is verified model by model; we do not claim that every product is CE, UKCA or RoHS compliant without current evidence in the product file.

Customers may return qualifying household WEEE on a free like-for-like basis to 38 Church Street, Hartlepool, TS24 7DG, by prior written authorisation linked to the replacement order. Do not send equipment without approval.

Request approval at [email protected] with the replacement order, model, quantity, condition and any contamination or battery risk. Remove wallet, pool and network credentials; never provide seed phrases or private keys.

Accepted WEEE is kept intact, secure, dry and separate. We do not dismantle, test for resale or otherwise treat equipment as waste unless authorised. We maintain take-back and transfer records for at least four years and arrange transfer to an appropriately authorised carrier and AATF, normally within 90 days.

EMR Hartlepool is being assessed as the proposed AATF route, but it must not be named as an accepted treatment partner until written acceptance and current authorisation scope are verified. T.J. Thomson is not currently named as a whole-WEEE route.

Do you assess miners not purchased from The Mining Shop?

Yes. We can assess ASIC miners from other sources, subject to ownership evidence, condition, location and written acceptance.

Is recycling always free?

No. Commercial assessment, collection, transport, handling or treatment charges can depend on the equipment and project. This does not remove a statutory free like-for-like take-back duty where one applies.

Could an old miner still have value?

Possibly. Repair, safe reuse, refurbishment or parts recovery may be preferable to recycling, but value and suitability depend on condition, efficiency, demand and processing costs.

What data should I remove?

Remove pool, worker, wallet, Wi-Fi, network and remote-access credentials and reset the device where appropriate. Never send seed phrases or private keys.

What records should a business retain?

Retain the equipment inventory, ownership evidence, invoices, transfer or collection records, treatment evidence and any producer or accounting records applicable to the business.

Does this page prove WEEE registration or environmental certification?

No. Applicable registration, compliance-scheme and authorised-treatment details must be verified for the relevant role and project. The Mining Shop UK Limited does not claim an environmental accreditation through this page.
