Table Guide

How to Read the Efficiency Figures

Four short steps from watts per hash to machines your power price can support.
1

Read Watts per Hash

Efficiency is power drawn per unit of hashrate, such as W/TH. Lower numbers mean less electricity for the same work, which is the whole game.
2

Set Your Energy Cost

Enter your pence per kWh. Efficient machines hold their profit as the rate climbs, and the table shows exactly where each machine gives up.
3

Compare Cooling Types

Hydro and immersion machines often lead the efficiency table but need plumbing or tanks. Filter by cooling method to match your site.
4

Weigh It Against Price

The most efficient machines carry premium prices. Flip to the value and ROI views to check the premium earns its keep at your rate.

How the Efficiency Ranking Works

Why watts per hash decides who survives, and how to read it like an operator.
Electricity is the one mining cost that never stops. The sections below explain what the efficiency figures measure, why they matter more as your power price rises, and how cooling choices and new chip generations move the ranking.

What Efficiency Actually Measures

Watts per Unit of Hashrate

Every machine is scored on the power it draws for the hashrate it delivers, such as watts per terahash. It is the fairest single number in mining.

Cost per Coin Earned

Two machines can earn the same while one burns twice the power. Efficiency is the difference between them once the bill arrives.

Breakeven Power Price

Each machine has a power rate above which it loses money. The more efficient the machine, the higher that ceiling sits above your rate.

What Moves the Efficiency Ranking

New Chip Generations

Efficiency improves in steps as manufacturers move to smaller chips. Each generation resets the front of this table.

Cooling Method

Hydro and immersion designs run denser and often leaner than the air cooled versions of the same platform.

Spec Variants

The same model ships in several hashrate bins with slightly different efficiency. The table ranks each variant on its own numbers.

Algorithm Differences

Units differ by algorithm, such as W/TH for SHA-256 and W/KSOL for Equihash, so machines are compared fairly within their own algorithm.

Firmware and Tuning

Stock figures are the manufacturer's rating. Efficiency modes can trade a little hashrate for a leaner machine when power is dear.

Understanding Efficiency

What the efficiency numbers mean, how to read them and why they decide long term winners.

It changes with each hardware generation and each new spec variant, which is why this page ranks machines from live product data instead of naming one model in writing.

The table above always shows the current leader on watts per hash. Whichever machine sits first on the efficiency view is the answer right now.

Watts per terahash: the power a machine draws for each terahash of SHA-256 hashrate it delivers. A machine at 15 W/TH does the same work as one at 30 W/TH on half the electricity.

Other algorithms use their own units, such as W/KSOL for Equihash, but the logic is identical everywhere: lower is better.

Hashrate decides what you earn. Efficiency decides what you keep, because electricity is the cost that never stops while you mine.

At cheap power rates the two views agree more often. As your rate rises, efficiency quietly takes over as the number that separates profit from loss.

Each efficiency card shows the power rate at which that machine's earnings equal its electricity cost. If your rate is below it, the machine can run profitably at today's conditions. Above it, it cannot.

It is the fastest filter in mining. Be wary of any machine whose breakeven sits close to your rate, because one difficulty jump can push it under.

The chips themselves hold their rated efficiency well. What changes is the competition: newer machines mine the same coins on fewer watts, so an older machine's share of rewards shrinks.

Dust, heat and tired fans can also drag real world performance, which is why cleaning and cooling maintenance protect your margins.

2

Efficiency in Practice

Cooling types, old against new hardware, and what your electricity rate really changes.

Often, yes. Water carries heat away far better than air, which lets the same chips run at healthier operating points and usually delivers more hashrate for similar power.

The trade is infrastructure. Browse hydro cooled miners and air cooled miners to compare what each route asks of your site.

It depends on your power price. The old machine costs less up front but burns more per unit of work, so expensive electricity erodes its advantage month after month.

Enter your rate and compare the pair on the profit view over a month and a year. The answer usually becomes obvious.

There is no single line, but the pattern is clear: at hosted rates around 4p per kWh raw earnings dominate, while at domestic rates above 20p per kWh efficiency decides survival.

In between, let the breakeven figures guide you. The further your rate sits below a machine's breakeven, the more room it has to ride out difficulty rises.

Within limits. Many machines offer efficiency or eco modes that cut power draw more than hashrate, which helps when your rate is high.

Stay inside manufacturer settings and keep cooling healthy. Chasing tuning gains at the cost of stability usually loses more in downtime than it saves in power.

Per unit of work, yes: less wasted power means less heat to remove. A machine can still be loud in absolute terms if it is large, and hydro models move much of the noise to pumps and dry coolers.

If noise is the constraint, filter to home friendly models or consider hosting rather than judging by efficiency alone.

3

Buying for Efficiency

Weighing the efficiency premium, combining ranking views and getting a machine deployed.

They carry the newest chips, and buyers with expensive power compete for them because efficiency is what keeps those operations profitable.

Whether the premium makes sense for you depends on your rate. The value and ROI views show whether the extra cost earns its keep at your numbers.

ROI is the natural partner, because it tests whether the efficiency premium pays itself back in a sensible time. The overall view then sanity checks the whole package.

A machine near the front of the efficiency and ROI views at your energy rate is about as safe as a shortlist gets.

Cheap hosted power softens the pressure but never removes it. Hosting capacity is allocated per kilowatt, so an efficient machine earns more from the same allocation.

See our hosting options for current rates, then compare your shortlist with a hosting site selected in the table.

Shortlist machines whose breakeven sits comfortably above your electricity rate, then check live stock and prices, which include delivery, import duties and taxes.
