MicroBT Whatsminer M31S 72Th SHA-256 Bitcoin Miner: Product Overview

What Is the M31S and What Does It Mine?

The MicroBT Whatsminer M31S 72Th SHA-256 Bitcoin Miner is a dedicated SHA-256 ASIC miner. Manufactured by MicroBT. This model belongs to the Whatsminer M Series. Released in 2020.

Is the M31S Right for Your Setup?

Mining starts with power. A competitive electricity tariff or surplus renewable generation can give your operation a useful cost advantage, while higher electricity prices can make an otherwise capable miner uneconomic. Compare your rate and chosen coin in the earnings table, allowing for cooling, pool fees and any other operating costs.

Prefer to avoid the day-to-day work of running your own mining site? Our managed ASIC hosting services offer an alternative, with power, cooling and monitoring handled at the facility. Explore current locations and rates, then speak to our team to confirm compatibility, availability, minimum quantities and any additional fees.

For this air cooled model, plan a clear route for cool intake air and warm exhaust air. Allow for fan noise and a continuous electrical load, with the supply and connection assessed for the manufacturer’s requirements.

Confirm the power supply, leads and cooling equipment included with your exact variant, and obtain its manufacturer’s installation manual before arranging the installation.

Which Coins Can the M31S Mine?

Mining Compatibility

Mining on the SHA-256 algorithm, you can secure Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and AuxPoW siblings such as DigiByte SHA (DGB), eCash (XEC), Peercoin (PPC) and Fractal Bitcoin (FB); you can also earn Bitcoin and other coins by selling your SHA-256 hash-power on the NiceHash Hashpower Marketplace (Nicehash-SHA-AB).

How SHA-256 Mining Works

SHA-256 is the cryptographic hash function used in Bitcoin mining. Bitcoin applies it twice to a block header, and miners repeatedly test candidate headers until a result meets the network difficulty target. Dedicated ASIC hardware performs this work at scale. For equipment comparisons, hashrate describes the amount of hashing work a machine performs, while efficiency describes the energy needed for that work. Compatibility also depends on the network and mining protocol supported by the device and pool.

These SHA-256 assets are covered in the earnings comparison below.

  • BitcoinBTC
  • Bitcoin CashBCH
  • DigiByteDGB
  • eCashXEC
  • Fractal BitcoinFB
  • Quai NetworkQUAI

Hashpower marketplaces

  • NiceHashBTC

Coin and merged mining support depend on the network, pool and firmware. Selling hashpower through a marketplace is different from directly mining its payout coin.

M31S Cooling Method: Air

No additional cooling equipment is required. However, good airflow, air separation, and effective cooling practices are essential for optimal hashing.

M31S Questions & Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to what buyers ask most before ordering this miner — live profitability and ROI, power and cooling, payment and delivery, hosting and warranty. If anything is unclear, our team is one message away.
1

About the M31S

Key specs and live earnings for this exact machine — pulled straight from our live product data.

The M31S is a MicroBT miner built on the SHA-256 algorithm. It delivers 72TH of hashrate at 3312W with an efficiency of 46W/TH, using Air cooling.

Every unit is supplied brand new through The Mining Shop UK — inspected, tested and quality checked before dispatch.

Our live data currently estimates around £72.99 per month on a 24-hour average for the M31S, with an estimated ROI of about 0 days at today's prices and network difficulty.

Real earnings move with coin price, difficulty and your electricity or hosting rate — treat every figure as an estimate, never a guarantee.

The M31S mines and other cryptocurrencies that use the SHA-256 algorithm, so you can point it at whichever supported coin or pool suits your strategy.

ASIC miners are algorithm-specific, so it cannot switch to coins on other algorithms — if you want a different coin, browse the full range or ask our team what fits.

2

Ordering, Payment and Delivery

How payment, dispatch and duties-included UK delivery work when you order.

We accept UK bank transfer and selected stablecoin payments such as USDT or USDC. We do not take cash, and card payments are generally not accepted on high-value hardware.

For your security we never change bank details by email — if anything looks unusual, stop and call us before sending funds.

In-stock machines are dispatched within 24–48 business hours of cleared payment, and UK delivery typically takes 2–5 business days on a tracked service.

We can also ship straight to a hosting facility, or arrange collection by appointment once funds have cleared.

Yes — on direct orders the price you see is the price you pay. Delivery, import duties and applicable taxes are handled by us.

That means no surprise courier invoices or customs paperwork after checkout.

3

Setup, Pools and Hosting

Running this miner at home, pool setup before dispatch, and what hosting looks like in practice.

Check your power, heat and noise first: the M31S draws 3312W and uses Air cooling, so it may need a dedicated circuit and proper ventilation rather than a standard socket.

If home is not practical, hosting gives you the same machine on wholesale power with heat and noise handled for you.

Yes. Send us your pool and worker details and we test your miner on your own pool before it ships — you can watch it hashing on your pool dashboard before it even arrives.

We never need your pool passwords, and every order includes a welcome pack covering the practical steps.

Yes. You own the miner, we run it in a specialist facility with 96–99% uptime targets, and rewards go straight from the pool to your own wallet — we never hold your coins.

Hosting is typically a 12-month term with the first month paid upfront — see how hosting works, or ask about Mine Before It Arrives (£40 + VAT) to start earning while your M31S is still in transit.

4

Warranty, Repairs and Support

The cover, repairs and UK support behind every machine we sell.

A 12-month manufacturer warranty as standard. We log serial numbers, photograph key components and keep your test reports on file, which makes any claim far smoother.

Overclocking, unauthorised firmware, unsuitable power supplies or third-party dismantling voids cover — talk to us before modifying anything.

Yes — diagnostics and repairs are in-house services covering hashboards, PSUs, fans and firmware, with a £150 + VAT diagnosis fee deducted from your final invoice if we complete the repair.

Repair customers get a dashboard showing progress, photos and inspection records.

We have mined since 2011 and sell only brand-new, genuine hardware — every machine is inspected, serial-logged and test-run on your own pool before dispatch.

Sales, hosting, repairs and honest advice under one roof — talk to the team before you order and you will never buy blind.
